Many people think of the end times as a future event—a dramatic series of disasters, wars, and final moments that will signal the end of the world. But the story isn’t about distant fears or timelines. It’s about something far more beautiful: the fact that Jesus’ kingdom has already begun and what that means for those who follow him.
The Kingdom Has Already Begun
When Jesus rose from the dead, he declared that the kingdom of God was at hand. His resurrection wasn’t just a miracle; it was the beginning of a new reality. He is already reigning, not in a way that overpowers or forces submission, but as a King who invites us into his kingdom with love, forgiveness, and purpose.
This kingdom isn’t tied to borders, governments, or specific times. It’s present wherever people live under Jesus’ guidance, seeking to follow his ways of love, peace, and truth.
What Does This Mean for Those Who Follow Him?
If Jesus’ kingdom is already here, what does that mean for those who choose to follow him?
- A New Way of Living: Following Jesus means living by the values of his kingdom. It’s a call to love others, forgive generously, and seek justice for those who are oppressed or overlooked. It’s a life that reflects the kind of world Jesus is building—a world where humility is greater than pride, and serving others is greater than seeking power.
- Freedom from Fear: In a world full of uncertainty, the reign of Jesus offers peace. Knowing that he is in control frees us from the need to fear the future or obsess over current events. His kingdom is unshakable, and nothing in this world can change his ultimate plan to restore all things.
- Hope for Renewal: Jesus’ kingdom isn’t about escaping this world; it’s about transforming it. When we follow him, we become part of his work to bring healing, renewal, and restoration to every part of creation. This means the choices we make today—how we treat others, how we steward resources, how we build relationships—are all part of his kingdom work.
- A Secure Identity: In Jesus’ kingdom, our value isn’t based on what we achieve, how others see us, or what we own. Our worth is secure because he has called us his own. This identity allows us to live with confidence, not striving to prove ourselves but resting in the love and purpose he has given us.
A Kingdom Unlike Any Other
The kingdom Jesus started isn’t like the kingdoms of this world. It doesn’t rely on power or politics to succeed. It grows quietly, through the hearts and lives of those who follow him. And while it may not always be visible, it is certain.
This is why the message of Jesus is one of hope. His kingdom is advancing, not through fear or force, but through acts of love, kindness, and faithfulness. It is a kingdom where every person has a place, every wound can be healed, and every wrong will one day be made right.
Living as Part of His Kingdom
Jesus invites us to live as part of his kingdom now. This means trusting him, even when the world feels uncertain. It means following his example of humility, service, and love. And it means holding on to the hope that one day, his work will be complete, and everything will be made new.
