Have you ever thought that the “Word of God” was just another name for the Bible? It’s a common belief, but there’s a surprise hidden in the New Testament that might change the way you see things.
The Usual Thought: “Word of God” Equals Bible
Most of us hear “Word of God” and immediately think of the Bible, with its stories, teachings, and wisdom spanning centuries. It’s a natural connection, given the Bible’s role in faith and life.
Now, here comes the twist, right from the New Testament. Picture this: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and lived among us” (John 1:1,14). This isn’t talking about a book. It’s talking about Jesus. That’s right, the New Testament reveals that Jesus, not the Bible, is the true “Word of God.”
Jesus’ Time: No Bible, Just the Word
Think about it: When Jesus walked the earth, sharing stories and wisdom, there was no Christian Bible. The Old Testament was there, but the New Testament? It was in the making, born from experiences and stories about Jesus. Those early followers weren’t just writing a book; they were sharing their life-changing encounters with Jesus, the living Word.
Seeing Jesus as the “Word of God” brings a whole new dimension to faith. It’s not just about reading words on a page; it’s about connecting with someone who lived, breathed, and changed the world. The Bible is important, sure, but think of it as a map that leads straight to Jesus, showing us his path, his heart, his message.
The Bible shows you on a map where you can find Jesus and where you can find Truth, but it points to the person of Jesus. The whole point of the Bible is to direct you to Jesus.
This isn’t dry theology; it’s a vibrant, living reality. Discovering Jesus as the “Word of God” opens up a world where faith isn’t just about what we read; it’s about who we meet in those pages. It’s about a relationship, an adventure, a journey into the heart of God’s love and truth as shown through Jesus.
